Keep Promises. Build Confidence.

Confidence

Think back to a time when you were stood up by someone, or someone didn’t do something they promised they would. You probably felt sad, unimportant, hurt and disappointed.

Now look in the mirror and ask yourself how many times you haven’t done something you said you’d do for yourself.

Studies on cognitive dissonance have shown that when your actions and beliefs don’t line up, you will change your beliefs to match your actions. Inevitably, and most times subconsciously, after a while will start to view yourself as unreliable and believe that you aren’t important and worthy anymore. You’ve lost trust and therefore have lost confidence in yourself.

“Confidence comes from keeping the promise you made to yourself.”

Tips on Keeping Promises to Yourself:

  • Start SMALL. Keep it REALISTIC. Set yourself up for success. I sometimes ask my clients, on a scale of 1-10, how confident are you that you can do this? If they say anything below an 8, then we make it smaller.

  • Within 5 seconds of thinking about that thing, take action. Do SOMETHING, ANYTHING to get the ball rolling. That could be as easy as putting it in your calendar.

  • Schedule it in. Block it off. Make it SACRED.

  • Change your beliefs about the promises you make to yourself. Most of us are much better at keeping promises we make to others than we are at keeping promises we make to ourselves. There’s a small part of you that believes that it’s okay to let yourself down. Believe you matter.

  • CELEBRATE the promise you kept!

If you weren’t able to do it the first time around, take a step back, and instead of being harsh on yourself, ask how you can make that promise a little more manageable - start smaller. It’s okay!

That’s what my clients learn to do in my program - take small and easy actions everyday to improve their relationship with exercise, food, and themselves - small changes over time make a big difference.

If you’re looking for a safe space where you can learn how to let go of dieting for good, enjoy food without guilt, and turn exercise into something you love to do rather than something you “have” to do, submit a client application to get in contact with me! I work with clients virtually all over the world helping those who are frustrated with dieting and want to change their relationship with food and themselves.
