New Year, New Mindset
This year let’s not do the whole, “New Year, New Me” thing.
There’s nothing wrong with you.
Instead of “New Year, New Me,” let’s try “New Year, New MINDSET.”
Let’s start with that little voice in your head.
Let us, for a moment, imagine that we are not our thoughts. We are living inside of this body that was given to us, just like our name was simple given to us, and we are witnessing these thoughts that have developed due to the things we’ve been told and the things we’ve watched and experienced. We are not our thoughts, we are simply aware of our thoughts. (Can you tell that the book Untethered Soul and the movie Soul are really hitting me hard right now?)
Anyways, if we can take these negative thoughts and beliefs about ourselves and sit them in a corner and give them a name, an identity… Would you allow that person back in your life? All the things that they say and do to you, would you let them treat you like that? I didn’t think so.
Now, I want you to…
1a) Write down all the negative beliefs and thoughts you have about yourself on little pieces of paper.
1b) Look at them: In what ways are these negative beliefs and thoughts keeping you from being happy? Do thinking these things about yourself help or hurt you? Are they just hurting you, or are they hurting those around you as well?
1c) Tear or burn those that you will no longer accept nor tolerate anymore and tell yourself why. Why will they no longer be accepted or tolerated. Why do you deserve better. Why do those you love deserve better.
Then…
2a) Write down all the positive qualities about yourself that you love on little pieces of paper.
2b) Look at them: How have these qualities helped you culminate the friends and community you have around you right now? What do those who really know you love most about you? What do you love most about yourself? How have these qualities helped you in darker times?
2c) Take some time to make a little collage of yourself for the New Year. Instead of things you want to change, make a collage of all the things you are grateful for and want more of: pictures of experiences, moments, friends, family, etc. and take the little pieces of paper with the qualities you love about yourself on them and paste them all over the collage. Let this serve as a reminder that the truer you are to yourself and the more you love all those things about you that make you great, the more magical your life will be.
Let me know how it goes :)
