A Thin Body is not the Default.

Travel the world and you'll see people of all different colors, shapes, and sizes.

You'll see that a thin body is not the default.

Travel back in time, and you'll see our standards of beauty radically shift decade to decade.

As little girls, we're taught there are only a few acceptable body shapes and we should strive to fit into those categories no matter what. We should be curvy, but in the right places - we should have flat stomachs and thigh gaps, but a round butt and perky boobs. But not everyone is built like that (in fact most people aren't) and even celebrities have to go through surgical procedures to adhere to the current standard. Our standards are actually the most unattainable they've probably ever been.

We are not all meant to look the same, we are not all meant to live in skinny bodies or perfectly curvy bodies. One of the reasons being WE'RE NOT ON THIS EARTH TO BE LOOKED AT. We're on this earth to experience life, and our bodies are the only way we get to do so.

Contrary to popular (irrational) belief, a thin body is not the default for everyone. Traveling the world will show you that. Honestly, going outside and walking around the block will show you that.

The diet industry wouldn't work if we all loved our bodies though, so here we are.

We CAN learn to love and respect our bodies WHILST partaking in and learning healthy behaviors at the same time - not because we hate ourselves, but rather BECAUSE we love ourselves and cherish our health. That's the BIG difference. It’s not anti-nutrition or anti-health, It’s anti-oppression and anti-shame. We should just be pro-learning how to take care of ourselves, period.
