What Makes a Snack Food, A Snack Food?
For me, a snack food has the following qualities: it’s easy, quick and tasty.
The first foods that come to mind for most are things like chips, bars, crackers, granola, etc.
AND, sometimes, those are things I reach for.
I LOVE snacks, but I also VALUE and love my health and my body enough to make sure my snacks (most of the time) are nourishing me well.
Simple prepping makes nourishing foods easy, quick and tasty (snack qualified).
Cutting/Cleaning raw fruits (i.e. papaya, mango, grapes, berries).
Cutting/Cleaning raw veggies (i.e. bell peppers, carrots).
Roasting vegetables (i.e. potatoes, carrots).
Buying dips (i.e. hummus, ranch, guacamole, yogurt).
Simple ways to make sure you have some great options to reach for when you get hungry.
Now, if you’re reading all this and thinking, “Well, all that takes time Azul.” Yes, it might take 1-2 hrs of your ENTIRE week so that the REST of your week (the other 166-167 hrs) you’re set. If you look at it that way, it seems kind of worth it, for you, for your body, for your health, right? It’s an act of self care.
and it might just be a small mindset shift.
“I don’t like prepping, it’s boring.”
Find a way to make it cathartic, it’llmlook different for everyone. I put some music on and jam out while I get lost in thinking about cooking and nothing else (talk about a meditation). When I lived in NYC I used to watch TV on my computer while cooking. I have clients that cook with their loved ones and some that listen to podcasts or audio books (genius).
“I don’t like cooking, I’m bad it.”
Ah, yes. Classic - Not wanting to do things we are bad at at first because it makes us frustrated and uncomfortable. The beauty of this is that it’s so much more empowering (and cheaper) once you get a hang of it. This is your health we’re talking about it. Prioritize. Get uncomfortable. Learn. Grab a simple recipe and follow it to a T. I SUCKED at cooking when I first started (believe it or not). I still don’t nail it all the time, but it’s fun and worth it to me.
What’s your negative belief around prepping? Why do you have it? What’s your solution?
If you’re looking for a safe space where you can learn how to let go of dieting for good, enjoy food without guilt, and turn exercise into something you love to do rather than something you “have” to do, submit a client application to get in contact with me! I work with clients virtually all over the world helping those who are frustrated with dieting and want to change their relationship with food and themselves.
