Same Bodyweight… Forever?
Our bodies are meant to fluctuate weight…
Question: Where did we get the idea that we’re supposed to be one weight forever?
One thing is for certain… No matter what… Our weight WILL go down and up, for the rest of our lives.
Weight is meant to fluctuate. In a single day alone, it’s normal to fluctuate 3-5 pounds.
As we get older, and grow, we also are going to GAIN weight.
Yes, I’m (not) sorry, aiming to weigh as much as you did in high school, or fit into the same size jeans, is silly.
Just… silly, verging on stupid, but since it would be rude of me to call you stupid, I’ll stick with silly.
There are a million and one reasons why you may fluctuate in weight, let’s list a couple:
Medication / Supplements
Illness / Injury
Alcohol Intake
Menstrual Cycle
Time of Day You Weigh Yourself
Salt Intake
Over-Exercising / Not Exercising
Drinking Too Much / Too Little Water
Carbohydrate Intake
Constipation / Diarrhea
Sleep
Inflammatory Foods
Hot, Humid Environment
The list goes on from there, but I think you get the point.
Weighing yourself every day and freaking the f**k out when it goes up, is stupid, erm, I mean silly.
There are seasons of your life you may weigh more than others, that’s okay.
There are seasons of your life you may weigh less than others, that’s okay.
To THINK you’re going to stay the same weight forever is to set unrealistic expectations for yourself.
As long as YOU know you’re taking care of yourself, you’re doing well.
Instead of weighing yourself every day, try focusing on your healthy habits:
Are you integrating whole foods regularly into your diet?
Are you limiting alcohol and drug use?
Are you exercising a few times a week?
Are you drinking enough water?
Are you managing your stress?
Are you getting enough sleep?
Are you happy in your relationships?
Are you fulfilled with your career?
Are you doing things that make you happy?
Are you keeping up with your medical appointments?
Losing weight, isn’t an indicator of health, sometimes, a lot of times, it’s the exact opposite.
So, step off the scale, will you? Focus on the things that matter.
